Forgive Me
In remembrance of my sister Sharon
Today is my late sister Sharon’s birthday. She faced significant health challenges throughout her life and was, despite everything, a wonderful sister to me. Many years ago, while practicing on this day, I found myself thinking of Sharon. As I improvised, I recalled a time when I had failed her—when I wasn’t the brother she deserved. Suddenly, this composition took form.
A couple of months later, I was on a meditation retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh, practicing this piece while looking out at beautiful woods. During one section, vocal lines began to emerge in my imagination. I explored this idea with some retreat members, and we performed it one evening for the community. It was a profoundly healing experience.
While recording the piece, I shared this story with my engineer Tony Geballe, who added the delayed guitar part. Years later, in 2024, I asked Misha Penton to add vocals to the mix. Here is the newer version of ‘Forgive Me.’
Have a listen and reflect. If there’s someone you need to talk with about a past issue, I hope you’ll do so before it’s too late.

Thank you for this eerie, melancholy and touching piece of music and for sharing the background behind it. As someone with a complicated and layered sibling relationship I feel this deeply.
